Taronga Zoo Sydney is looking for an experienced and motivated Zoo Nutritionist to join our Wildlife Nutrition team!
This exciting newly budgeted position will join the team in a 2 year full time capacity, and continue to contribute to the development, implementation and review of Taronga’s nutrition strategies, policies, standards and practices for Taronga’s animal population.
Overseas candidates will be considered for this position, with an option for sponsorship.
About the Role…
The purpose of the Nutritionist role is to is to drive Taronga’s Nutrition Program to new heights while ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare for the animals in Taronga’s care and achieves the vision of Taronga Conservation Society Australia. There will be a requirement for consultation with Taronga Western Plains Zoo, and occasionally the need to visit the TWPZ location throughout the 2 year position.
Key Accountabilities…
Progress the understanding of zoo & wildlife nutrition through development of new educational offerings and experiences for staff, visitors and students.
Optimise animal feeding to meet nutritional requirements, ensure physical health, welfare, well-being and behavioural enrichment.
Maintaining high quality diets that are fresh and hygienic, sourced from reliable vendors, considerate of animal welfare, budget and sustainability.
Oversee efficient, effective and sustainable operations with regards to nutrition quality and safety standards, food procurement, diet formulation, management, audits and records.
Facilitate research projects and present as required at professional meetings.
Communicate and forge relationships with the broader community by providing scientific support through affiliated networks and engaging in consultancies on behalf of Taronga.
Work effectively as a member of a high performing team including peers, volunteers and students to assist Taronga in its achievement of strategic outcomes.
Comply with sustainability practices in the workplace and progress nutrition initiatives to help achieve Taronga's sustainability targets and reduce environmental impact.
About You…
We are looking for candidates that have:
Tertiary qualification in animal nutrition or degree exceeding or equivalent in a related sciences field.
Minimum of 3 years recent experience leading a zoo-based nutrition program.
Demonstrated capacity to design and deliver training materials for multiple skill levels.
Advanced computing skills including knowledge of diet management, nutrition databases, presentation, team collaboration and finance programs (SAP experience preferred)
Ability to obtain a NSW Driver’s license or equivalent.
Ability to obtain and maintain a current paid NSW Working with Children Check at own expense.
